HH speakers are designed by our own Engineers in the UK, drawing on decades of design & manufacturing experience. Sourcing from world renowned suppliers, using Kevlar and fibreglass reinforced cones, high temperature rated, very closely wound round and ribbon wire coils, and high grade magnetic materials chosen for superior flux and stability we ensure performance, reliability and above all sound quality.
Many aspects must be considered in PA woofer design: Is it for a sub or a front-of-house cab? If front-of-house, what compression driver will it be used with? What size and type of cabinet must it suit? How many drivers will be in the cab? When all this is considered, it is clear why designing and building our own speakers is a great advantage. FOH woofers must have enough high mid to match the compression driver used, but must reproduce enough bass to work without a sub. Subwoofer drivers must be able to shift a lot of air without suffering mechanical damage, or becoming non linear, and also should not reproduce much mid, which would need to be rolled out by expensive X-over components.
The Vector range of PA cabinets all use 1” exit compression drivers for efficient and clear high frequency reproduction (except VRE-215, which uses the larger 1.4” exit / 50mm titanium done compression driver), and in house designed woofers using Kevlar reinforced cones, and high temperature, close wound voice coils with polyimide formers. Kevlar offers very high stiffness with low weight, reducing cone distortions, improving clarity and extending the frequency range to match the 1” exit compression drivers.
The Tensor range of cabinets feature high efficiency 1” exit compression drivers with 44mm voice coils (except TRE-108, which uses a 1” exit / 25mm coil compression driver with Neodymium magnet). These high specification drivers perfectly complement the moulded horn flare giving great clarity and dispersion across the high frequency band. Tensor woofers all feature Kevlar reinforced felted cones and large diameter high power rated precision voice coils. The drivers are designed for high efficiency, giving better transient response, clarity and reliability whilst reducing thermal compression issues.
All Tessen systems have cast frame, designed-for-purpose woofers with highly efficient ribbon wire coils, massive magnet structures and glass-fibre reinforced felted cones with long excursion surrounds. Cones are manufactured to our specification by world renowned U-Sonics Power Cone and specially imported for Tessen cabs. The glass fibre reinforcement greatly enhances the stiffness of the cones without compromising weight, and provides the correct tonal character and smoothness to seamlessly blend with the large format 1.4” exit compression drivers used in all Tessen high/mid cabs. The 1.4” exit / 50mm Titanium dome compression drivers give a smoother, clearer upper mid character for superb vocal reproduction with great projection and very high power handling
Electric guitar speakers are a field all of their own, actually having more in common with the ‘hi-fi’ drivers of the 1940’s than modern day PA. An electric guitar speaker contributes significantly to the sound, and in reality is one third of the instrument: electric guitar sounds good only when the guitar, amp and speaker work well together. Remove any one of those 3 components and you have nothing. At HH we have vast experience of this unique discipline, and relationships going back decades with the finest suppliers of components. Our 10” and 12” lead guitar cones are made to our exacting specification of traditional paper pulps and resin impregnations by U-Sonics Power Cone, who know more about making guitar cones than anyone. Our 6” and 8” cones are actually new tools designed and commissioned by HH, as we simply could not find cones in these sizes that were good enough.
Although similar to a modern PA driver, bass guitar speakers are not the same thing at all. We use Kevlar reinforced cones driven by powerful motor structures to give the extended frequency range, precision and attack needed to cover the wide musical palette of bass guitar. We specify the speaker that will have the performance and sound we want, not just ‘enough’ power handling. The Studio Bass 20 has a 70W speaker, the Studio Bass 60 has a 150W speaker and the Studio Bass 120 has a 200W speaker. Why? Because they sound right.
Quality doesn’t just happen. At HH we regard manufacturing as a team effort, involving R&D, manufacturing and the component and material suppliers. Our engineers can be found not just on the factory floor, but visiting the factories supplying the production line and working closely with every step of the process to improve quality, efficiency and build strong, long-term and profitable relationships. Some of these relationships go back many years, and all are built on trust and respect.
Unlike many of our competitors, we design and build every part of our products. Speakers, electronics, cabinets and other parts are all designed and refined together to make a system; every part is fine tuned in development to work in harmony with the others resulting in performance far greater than the sum of the parts.
Good Engineers realise that you can’t create a perfect design on a computer. After optimising the theoretical cabinet acoustics we build and extensively test samples. During testing braces, handles, pole mount fittings, ports and drivers may all be moved or altered. Sometimes just a few millimetres make a big difference to overall performance. Bracing the cabinet in the right place costs no more than a brace in the wrong place, but greatly improves clarity. A few days of extra testing and cabinet building is justified by the result.
We don’t believe in complicated Crossovers with dozens of components and all kinds of protection networks. These interfere with clarity, add distortions and cost money; money many people try to claw back by using poor quality or inappropriate components. By using simple Crossovers with high quality components, carefully tuned ‘in system’ we obtain a far superior sound which actually offers more protection. You can hear if you’re overdriving the system. Trust your ears.
The corners used for Studio and Queensberry combos are a good example of how we approach design. Designed and tooled by HH, these capture the character of classic HH products whilst providing robust protection for the cabinets, but also serve as low profile feet, keeping the cabinets close to the floor to enhance bass reproduction. Unique, stylish, but also very functional and improving performance. That’s Head & Heart.
Any Audiophile can tell you that mounting a speaker on big rubber feet is acoustically disastrous, resulting in weak, muddy bass and smeared mid range. Incredibly, it’s exactly what most PA manufacturers do. We designed and tooled a unique, very low profile steel glide that minimises contact area (essential for vibration isolation), whilst preventing floor damage to give precise mid range clarity and deep natural bass with real authority: A simple idea, but one that improves the system- Very HH.
A monitor wedge has a specific task; providing clear sonic detail to performers so they can play in time and in tune with each other. They are not a front-of-house cab in an angled cabinet; the two requirements are quite distinct. HH monitors are designed to the same standards as all HH PA, but voiced for their specific purpose. The unique low profile cabinets are fitted with our custom glides, and use asymmetric horn flares to ensure acoustic energy and clarity is focused exactly where you need it, helping to reduce feedback and bleed through problems. Cabinets, drivers and X-overs are all specifically designed & voiced for on- stage monitoring purposes.
HH Active monitors feature convection cooled Class A/B power stages for solid reliable performance. Driven from a simple yet effective preamp complete with level control, 5 band graphic equaliser and clip indicator LED they provide maximum on-stage clarity and definition without feedback. They can also drive any suitable 8 ohm passive cabinet (connected with a Speakon equipped cable)
Designed and voiced purely for on-stage monitoring HH monitors give unparalleled clarity, definition and level from low profile, compact cabinets leaving the stage for you. Purpose designed drivers and X-overs, asymmetric horn flares and our unique glides ensure your sound is where you want it, with a level of detail that is certain to enhance your performance. Driven directly from an HH active monitor, or via the Scalar power amps these are essential for any successful performance.
The main PA facing the audience is the vital link between your talent and your audiences perception. Your front-of-house cabs carry your message. Loud isn’t enough ; detail, clarity, responsiveness and even subtlety are essential. Your speakers should be good enough that nobody even notices they exist. By fine tuning every detail to work together our PA will put the focus on you, not your speakers. Understated looks with robust build and components sourced from the best suppliers after extensive testing combine to give outstanding acoustic performance.
HH Active front-of-house cabs use our proprietary Biamp electronics. A high efficiency, lightweight switch-mode power supply drives a Class D low/mid frequency amplifier rated conservatively at 500W (RMS @ 4 ohms), and a 50W Class A/B high frequency amp to give high sound pressure levels with dynamics, headroom and clarity. The inbuilt active X-over includes EQ and phase correction to perfectly match the drivers. The input panel includes features a balanced line input and link output, level control, preshape switch, and indicator LED’s for clipping and protect. Mixing and EQ are left to your mixer and outboard, where they should be. Our active cabs just make your sound louder.
Designed using our ‘Total System Design’ approach every aspect of our passive PA is carefully considered with regards to how the cabs are used. From low resistance air cored inductors in our X-overs to carefully positioning the handles and pole mount sockets we strive to make our PA the best performing, most effective systems in any price band. By using the best materials and components, and designing for performance not price we ensure our cabs sound good beyond the showroom.
Subwoofers don’t just ‘add bass’. By extending the low frequency response of your system you increase the natural character of the sound, and improve mid range clarity by removing the need for your Front-of-house cabs to reproduce bass. HH subwoofers are designed to musically add low frequency content that will enhance any source: vocals, acoustic instruments, drums or recorded tracks. By filling in the lower ranges with clean, clear and musical sound the overall performance of your PA will be improved.
A 500W RMS Class D amplifier combined with a switch-mode power supply drive purpose built woofers with ribbon wire coils and large high grade magnet systems to create highly efficient and responsive subwoofer systems. With balanced stereo inputs, filtered and full range link outputs, variable low pass filter and phase reversal switch HH active subs can easily be added and perfectly matched to any system, enhancing any style of music.
High spec subwoofer drivers, featuring ribbon wire coils and Kevlar or fibreglass cone reinforcement (depending on range) provide deep but natural and musical bass extension. Steel pole mount sockets enable easy mounting of front-of-house cabs whilst the compact cabinet designs take up the minimum of stage space
